Aircraft Lines and Surfacing Engineer

Role overview: (Remote w/25% travel)

Otto Aviation is seeking a dynamic engineer to join our Aircraft Integration Team. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in surface modeling and 3D layout, and strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to coordinate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.  You will be joining a team developing the world’s most efficient aircraft. Otto Aviation is seeking first principles engineers that work great in a team atmosphere and know how to get things done.

Responsibilities

• Be a functioning team member within Otto’s Aircraft Integration Team.

• Model detailed, complex surfaces in 3DX for multiple aircraft variants/test articles.

• Perform validation of surface quality.

• Coordinate with cross functional teams to define aircraft surfaces balancing performance, manufacturing, and systems packaging.

• Perform and participate in trade studies to influence key aircraft decisions.

• Give regular presentations showing and explaining updates and/or changes to the configuration.

Education and Experience

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.

• 5+ years of aerospace experience, or a closely related field.

• Advanced skills in CATIA V5/V6/3DX (or similar); 3DX is preferred.

• Expertise in surface modeling and related CAD workbenches.

• Ability to create complex class A surfaces and prove class A quality.

• Experience working with parametric surface geometry definitions.

• Proficiency in integrating CFD and test results into functional aircraft surfaces.

• Understanding of basic aircraft aerodynamics and control surfaces.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Overall knowledge of mechanical systems, propulsion, structures, and key interfaces to aircraft systems common on Part 23 / Part 25 aircraft.

• Strong knowledge of industry standards with hands-on experience.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Basic understanding of Product Lifecycle Management processes.

• Familiarity with RTCA DO-160G, DO-254, and SAE ARP4754A.

• Familiarity with FAR Part 23 and Part 25 requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand on feet and walk around for extended periods of time.

• Must be able to sit at desk for prolonged periods of time and work on a computer.

• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
